Outdoor Movies in October? You Bet.

I know, I know… it’s cloudy and cool…but there are a lot of great reasons to take advantage of free outdoor movies in October:

  • NO MOSQUITOES! Isn’t it nice to not worry about getting Zika?
  • No ants! It’s too cold. They are probably all dead.
  • Pumpkin popcorn! Make it and bring it.
  • Snuggling is best when there is a slight chill in the air. Wear all of your sweatshirts and bring all of your blankets.
  • Candy:  lots of it. How else will you be able to decide what to distribute on Halloween?

Of course, this only scratches the surface, but, you get it: it’s free, it’s fun, and it’s outdoors, so what better way to spend the evening than at the NYC Parks Department’s Shocktober Fest!

Since it gets dark so early now (cue: crying), the films start at 6:30pm. This is a struggle for those of us who work until 6:00pm, but, on the bright side, it means that you get home and into a hot shower that much earlier. The Shocktober Fest schedule is as follows:

McCarren Park, Brooklyn

Monday, October 3rd

Monster House

Owl’s Head Park, Brooklyn

Monday, October 3rd

Maria Hernandez Park, Brooklyn

Friday, October 7th

Pride and Prejudice and Zombies

Bushwick Inlet Park, Brooklyn

Friday, October 7th

Cooper Park, Brooklyn

Saturday, October 8th

The Bride of Frankenstein

Carroll Park, Brooklyn

Saturday, October 8th

Creature from the Black Lagoon

Bushwick Inlet Park, Brooklyn

Sunday, October 9th

The Rocky Horror Picture Show

McCarren Park, Brooklyn

Saturday, October 29th

Yes, I’m disappointed that they are all in Brooklyn, too. At least there’s this thing called the subway.

For more information, visit the NYC Parks Department website. Maybe there is a place where you can contact them to ask why all of the films are in Brooklyn?

Have fun!
